Open day 2019 – IU

Lab Open Day March 17, 2019, for High School Students

On March 17, more than 1000 high school students from Ho Chi Minh City, Vung Tau, Dong Nai, Tien Giang provinces, and so on, have participated in the Open day at Cellular Reprogramming Laboratory. This special event – held by International University – allowed the students first-hand experience of university life as well as the latest information on available courses, facilities, and job prospects.

With an aim to give the students the most accurate view of Animal Biotechnology, particularly Reproductive Technology and Regenerative Biomedicine, lab activities included both general presentation and actual experimental procedures in order to help them figure out their interests, inspiration as well as future orientation.

Most importantly, the students had the opportunity to observe Intracytoplasmic Sperm injection (ICSI) and cloning by somatic cell nuclear transfer (SCNT) performed by A. Prof. Nguyen Van Thuan and Lab members. These are highly advanced techniques that are only accessible to experts at hospitals or renown institutes. Not only were the students taught about Developmental biology, or the intricate mechanisms behind such techniques but they also could physically “touched” the eggs under the micro-manipulator system.

The students were introduced to different methods of Embryology.

The graduate students were introducing the technique SCNT for students.
